HARTFORD- Despite the rainy weather, a nice crowd of runners came out to Rentschler Field Sunday morning, to pay tribute to a young man who lost his life while he was out for a run this past winter.

Michael Walsh, 25, was struck by a snow plow on Main Street in Torrington back in January.

Friends of the family organized this first ever 5K and the proceeds went to a cause Walsh was passionate about: helping the homeless. Walsh's mother said the accident has taken a huge toll on everyone in her son's life, but that Sunday's event has given her comfort and she's grateful to everyone who showed up.

Walsh graduated from Fordham and was planning on attending medical school. He was a private tutor, liked doing stand-up comedy and he was an avid runner. At the time of his death he was training for his first marathon.
