HARTFORD -- On a breezy Tuesday evening, more than 100 people came out to a vigil held in honor of a father who was caught in the crossfire that broke out at a basketball tournament.

"He was raised here, this is where he played as a child, and this is where he died," said Shirlee Headen, mother of 41-year-old James Headen.

The father of two was watching a neighborhood basketball tournament at a court on Holcomb Street Saturday when a fight broke out nearby and shots were fired. Three other people were injured, and Headen was fatally shot in the head.

"It's almost as if they're in the OK Corral and they just want to go shoot everybody and they don't understand the hurt that it causes the family until it happens to them," said Coretta Gatling, Headen's sister.

Preachers called out for peace and more family involvement to curb the violence that's been plaguing Hartford recently. Neighbors say they're going to try harder to make an impact.

"I love him and I'm going to miss him," said Gatling.

Hartford Police have one man in custody in connection to the shooting but believe that with the amount of people at the tournament, someone saw what happened. Police are asking anyone with information that could help to come forward and people can remain anonymous.
