HAMDEN – There will be a few more people on the road this holiday weekend according to the American Automobile Association.

AAA Northeast spokesperson Fran Mayko said nearly 42 million folks will be on the road, the most since 2007. Over 2 million people from the New England states will traveling.  Most of them, 1.8 million, will be planning to travel between July 1 and 5.

The increase of travelers is .7% more than last year, despite a significant drop in gas prices. In fact, says AAA, Independence Day prices are expected to be the lowest in at least five years.

AAA said 85% will drive, 8% will fly, and another 8% will go by train, bus or boat.
