ELLINGTON – State Police shut down Shenipsit Street near Mountain Street for several hours Thursday morning after a car slammed into a light pole early this morning.

According to the Ellington Fire Department, firefighters said a four car sedan crashed into a light pole and knocked it down and wires. They found a person lying on Shenipsit Street near the car. That person was transported to the hospital by Life Star for serious injuries.

The driver ran away from the scene and was found around 4:30 a.m.

Police are investigating if someone else may have been in the car at the time of the accident.

The crash caused people in the area to loose power. Close to 50 Eversource customers were without power around 2:30 a.m. The power has since been restored to most customers.
