HAMDEN — The Hamden police chief says law enforcement agencies investigating a report of an explosion just after 11 a.m. in Hamden have found a body nearby.

Hamden Police Chief Thomas Wydra told the New Haven Register on Saturday there was evidence of an explosion near the body, which was wrapped in plastic or some other material.

Wydra did not give other details, including if the body and the apparent explosion are related.

There were two people seen in the area at the time of the incident and theses suspects may be in a gold- or champagne-colored Nissan Altima with a Florida license plate. According to state police, a vehicle of interest was recovered and  further investigation is needed to determine if at all it is connected to the case.

Wydra said the New Haven police bomb squad is on the scene in a wooded area on Wintergreen Avenue, north of Carbonell Drive, along with the FBI, and Hamden and Southern Connecticut State University police.

The site is next to the Wilbur Cross Parkway, just north of the tunnels.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending next of kin notification and the post-mortem examination.

There is no threat to the community at this time, and appears to be an isolated incident.

Anyone who may have information regarding this incident, or who may know the identity of the suspects is asked to call police at 860-685-8190. All calls will be kept confidential.
