EAST GRANBY–The stories of fallen heroes will live on.
A new traveling exhibit will showcase Gold Star families who lost a son, brother or husband in Vietnam. The family members will share their loved one’s stories for the first time on July 11 and 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Connecticut Air National Guard base, located at 100 Nicholson Road in East Granby.
CCSU’s veterans’ history project and a writing class teamed up to compile the stories and create the exhibit.
The point of the project is to showcase stories that were never told because families didn’t want to celebrate the heroics of their lost loved ones amidst the ongoing involvement of the Untied States in Vietnam.
The National Guard base, as well as the New England Air Museum, will have several other special exhibits this year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, and as many as 30,000 guests are expected to visit throughout the year.
This exhibit will visit other towns in Connecticut this year. Here is the schedule:

- Connecticut’s Old State House, Hartford, September 2 to October 21
- Silas Bronson Library, Waterbury, October 23 to December 11
- Wolcott Public Library, December 14 to February 1, 2016
- Terryville Public Library, February 3 to March 23, 2016
- CCSU’s Elihu Burritt Library, New Britain, March 25 to May 13, 2016
