Police said that EMS responded to reports of an unconscious 77-year-old woman on Orient Street and they began to administer CPR on her.
Jeremy Garcia jumped off the porch and punched the backup officer in the face, according to police, significantly injuring the officer’s eye.
More backup officers were called to respond to what police described as a “completely out of control melee.”
The injured officer remains off the job with a serious eye injury, according to police. A firefighter who responded was also injured, according to the fire department.
The woman reported to be suffering from cardiac arrest died.
