The small music venue opened in 2003 and aims to be "a safe, positive community for people of all ages through music and the arts." It holds about 150 people at a time and has hosted hundreds of national, regional, and local bands.

"We are a venue run by musicians for musicians" says their website. The Space tweeted about their financial problems Thursday afternoon and had already raised more than $14,000 by Monday afternoon.

They site the harsh winter cancelling of shows and the high cost of doing business in Connecticut as contributing to their financial woes. They also say a promoter from out of state who held events at The Space went out of business and didn't pay them for events.

Sitting on the Space stage Rodgers told Fox CT, "I hope to keep this place open for as long as I possibly can. Places like this need to exist so kids can come together and meet each other and create community."

Craig Mills, the bassist in the New Haven based band called "Caliway" has been both a patron and performer at The Space for years.

"All ages are welcomed here," Mills said. "Parents can feel ok about their kids coming here."

Nick Firine, the booking manager at the Space added, "there are not too many all ages music venues still open in the U.S. ...we are going to fight to keep the curtain open."

You can donate to their GoFundMe page here.

Four fundraising concerts are also planned to help "Save the Space" on various dates in August.
