CLINTON — A Clinton teen who set off an international search is now back in Connecticut after flying home Saturday. Rebecca Arthur, 17, was located in the town of Essaouira, Morocco Friday after her parents reported her missing.

Police began investigating a missing persons report involving Arthur on Thursday. Her parents believed she flew to Morocco to meet up with a man she met on Facebook, Simo El Adala.

Police say her parents dropped her off at JFK Airport on Monday, July 6 to visit a friend in California. Her parents say that’s where she said she was going. When they didn’t hear from her, they called police.

But Arthur tells a different story. She is seen in this video telling the camera her parents knew of her plans and gave her permission to fly to Morocco.

Her parents said they were unaware of her actual plans or the details of the Facebook relationship, but according to Arthur’s page, she and Adala have been dating since February.

Clinton Police, the FBI, Homeland Security, and the American consulate in Morocco were all involved with the case.
