EAST HARTFORD -- Recently, Monday evenings have been a little different at the Flores home in East Hartford. It’s now a family affair as they get caught up on their favorite TV show, “So you think you can dance.”

The Flores’ love the show for good reasons. Many of them are dancers and one of their own is taking the national stage.

Darion Flores, performing miles away in Los Angeles, beams brightly into his East Hartford home on TV as his family, especially his mom, beams with pride. “I just love watching him on TV be himself,” said Terese Flores, Darion’s mom.

Flores told Fox CT, this moment is overwhelming because it’s been a long journey for them both. She recalled the two moving to different parts of the country so Darion could pursue his dancing career as a professional ballet dancer, which began at age three.

“You never think, after all you do for your child and all the struggles you go through and all the obstacles that you overcome, it gets to a point where you're like, Oh My God, he's really becoming the person he wants to become,” said Flores.

Being so far away at times, Flores said very few family members could show up for his performances, making this moment much more special because now his entire family can watch right along with the rest of America. “It's so much more exciting. Just getting together with the family and having family dinners,” said Flores.

While they family’s been gathering at home up to this point, they plan to have a small viewing party at J’s Crab Shack on Park Street in Hartford next Monday, July 20 at 8 p.m.
