Teenager shot in New Haven

Police are investigating a shooting in New Haven.

NEW HAVEN — A teenager was shot in New Haven Monday afternoon, police said.

There were several shell casings found on the ground near 114 Read Street, where police are investigating the shooting.

Brandon Sheiley, 19, of New Haven was shot in the buttocks and he was hospitalized for treatment, police said.

Witnesses describe the shooter as a black teenage male who appears to be 17- to 19-years-old, police said. They said he is about 5-foot-7 tall and has a thin to average build with short hair. He was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, police said.

A dark red Nissan Altima or Maxima is a possible vehicle of interest because it was seen leaving the area of Butler Street toward Hamden.

Witnesses reported hearing about a half-dozen gunshots.
