CUTCHOGUE, N.Y. — Investigators have been at the site of a limousine and pickup truck crash that killed four women on Long Island.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota and Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley appeared at the intersection in Cutchogue, New York, prior to their midday media briefing Monday.

The truck driver is being held on $500,000 bail after pleading not guilty to a DWI charge at his hospital arraignment. Steven Romeo was arraigned on a misdemeanor DWI charge Sunday in Greenport, New York.

Attorney Dan O’Brien offered condolences and said Romeo had remained at the crash scene Saturday.

Four other women and the limo driver were hospitalized. Those killed in the crash were identified as Brittany Schulman, 23, and Lauren Baruch, 24, of Smithtown; Stephanie Belli, 23, of Kings Park; and Amy Grabina, 23, of Commack.

The friends hired the limo for a winery visit on Long Island’s East End.

Authorities say their driver was trying to make a U-turn when the truck hit the limo broadside.
