HARTFORD--Governor Dan Malloy met with Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra and Police Chief James Rovella Monday to discuss state law enforcement help following a very violent weekend in the capital city.

Over the weekend there were four separate shootings which claimed six victims.  One of the victims, Jonathan Whaley, 34, died.  Whaley was shot several times outside his home on Elliot Street Saturday morning, police said.

Last week, Mayor Segarra sent the governor a letter requesting help and Malloy said he answered the call with even more assistance.

Three state police detectives and one sergeant have been assigned to help Hartford Police and they were on the shooting scenes over the weekend.  Chief Rovella said it paid off because the state police detectives helped identify one of the shooters.

A State Department of Corrections representative is also assisting Hartford Police track violent criminals out on parole.

"We're seeing that group that are 25 to 30 that we would have thought that are starting to age out of the violence business," Rovella said.  "It appears that they're not."

As of Monday afternoon, Hartford has already suffered 18 homicides.  That's just one shy of the total from all of last year.
