WILLIMANTIC – A Willimantic man was arrested Sunday afternoon after running away from a two-car head-on crash at around 2:45 p.m. on Jackson Street.

According to police, Albert Hawley, 53, of Emerald Avenue, was the driver of one of the vehicles and ran away, leaving his girlfriend injured within the passenger side of their car. The other two female occupants of the second vehicle were uninjured.

Police found Hawley hiding in a nearby apartment complex and he was taken into custody without incident. He is currently being held at Willimantic Police Headquarters.

His girlfriend was taken to Windham Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Hawley is being charged with failure to drive right, operating without a license, and evading responsibility.
