HARTFORD — Hartford police have made an arrest in the city’s eleventh homicide of the year.

On Tuesday, May 26, Alexis Marrero, 23, was shot inside Ciales Grocery store. He died the next day at Hartford Hospital.

Police say that several leads lead them to Jonathan Contrera, 22, of Hartford. On June 16, a judge granted an arrest warrant, accusing him in the deadly shooting.

On Monday, police found Contrera at the Southington Motel 6. He was arrested and charged with murder and carrying a pistol without a permit.

19 people have been murdered in Hartford so far this year. That’s the same number of people that were murdered in Hartford in all of 2014.
