Father, 7-year-old son killed in crash on I-95 in Stonington

STONINGTON — A father and his son have been killed in a tractor trailer crash that occurred in Stonington Monday evening.

Police say 7-year-old Sergio Giovanny Castellon and 31-year-old Sergio Amilear Castellon died in the crash. Their truck was traveling Northbound on I-95 Monday night when it struck an overpass and caught fire. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the boy was in the sleeper section of the cab.

The Castellon’s are from Council Bluffs, Iowa, according to police.

The crash closed down I-95 in Stonington in both directions between exits 91 and 90 on Monday evening. By Tuesday morning, one lane was still closed.

Police say the truck struck a guardrail and bridge abutment. The wreck scattered debris across the highway, and witnesses reported seeing smoke and hearing explosions.

The accident remains under investigation.
