SOUTHBURY — Firefighters battled a large fire an condo complex early Thursday morning.
Fire officials said the fire started in one of the units and kept spreading to other units. Mutual aid was requested from fire departments in Rox Wood, Oxford and Sandy Hook.
Residents from five units had to be evacuated. Two people were taken to Waterbury Hospital for injuries and have been treated and released.
The complex property manager originally told Fox CT three people were hospitalized, but police later told us the number injured was two.
The animal control unit was called in to assist with pets that were inside. The complex is a condominium complex for people over 55 years old.
Firefighters got the fire under control and put it out. There is extensive damage to the five units. State Police have shut down Winship Drive.
The fire marshal is on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
