State Rep. Christina Ayala

BRIDGEPORT — Former Bridgeport state Rep. Christina Ayala has rejected a plea deal in an alleged election fraud case and a trial has been scheduled for September.

The Connecticut Post reports that a lawyer for the 31-year-old Ayala told a Bridgeport Superior Court judge on Thursday that Ayala wants a trial. Judge Earl Richards continued the case for trial on Sept. 10.

Details of the proposed plea deal weren’t disclosed.

Ayala has pleaded not guilty to eight counts of fraudulent voting, 10 counts of primary or enrollment violations and one count of evidence tampering. She is accused of voting in and representing a district where she didn’t live, and with fabricating evidence about her address.

She lost the Democratic primary for the 128th House District last year.
