HARTFORD – Hartford Hospital, Backus Hospital and MidState Medical Center announced on Thursday plans to build a third home for LifeStar.

The new hangar will be built at MidState Medical Center in Meriden, where the aircraft will be stationed beginning August 7.

The move will better serve the community as it enables LifeStar to reach a wider patient geography and, as always, bring the patient to the most appropriate clinical setting, often Hartford Hospital’s level 1 trauma center.

Currently, there are LifeStar hangars on the roof of Hartford Hospital and at Backus Hospital in Norwich.

Hartford Hospital recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of its LifeStar program.

Since taking off in 1985, LifeStar has transported more than 30,000 people and saved thousands of lives.

In June, LifeStar crews began carrying blood products so that the teams could offer life-saving blood transfusion when and if necessary.
