NEW HAVEN–On Wednesday, Fox CT reported that three shoreline towns–Guilford, New Haven and Stamford–had captured mosquitoes that had West Nile virus.

As of August 3, the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station had found the virus in nine insects in Guilford, near Moose Hill Road, 57 in Beaver Pond Park in New Haven, and 50 at Cove Island Park in Stamford.

On Thursday, it was announced that Darien, West Haven and Waterford had also seen mosquitoes with West Nile between the testing period, July 20 to July 29.

Dr. Philip Armstrong, the medical entomologist at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, said, “The number of infected msoquitoes and the number of affected towns is increasing. We expect to see further build-up of West Nile virus in mosquitoes with increased risk of human infection over the rest of the summer and into early fall.”
