HADDAM – Two people were injured, one severely, around 6 p.m. on the Connecticut River in the area of Midway Marina near the Blue Oar restaurant Sunday.

The injuries were sustained from a boat propeller.

A 23-year-old woman sustained severe lacerations to her lower extremities from the propeller of a 26′ vessel and was taken by ambulance to Hartford Hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

A second victim, the man who owns the boat, suffered minor lacerations and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Both jumped off the boat to swim while they were stopped in the river.

The accident occurred when another person onboard restarted the boat and attempted to move it closer to the two people who were swimming.

The man who restarted the boat was charged with first-degree reckless operation of a vessel while under the influence. The identity of that man is not available at this time.

There were reportedly a total of six people aboard the boat.
