HARTFORD — Connecticut lawmakers are preparing to learn more about the conditions and practices at the state’s juvenile detention facilities.

The General Assembly’s Children Committee is scheduled to hold an informational forum on Wednesday about recent reports concerning the Connecticut Juvenile Training School for boys and the nearby Pueblo Unit for girls. Both Middletown facilities are run by the Department of Children and Families.

A recent report from the Office of the Child Advocate found delinquent youths have been subject to unlawful and repeated restraint and isolation at both locations.

DCF later released an action plan in response to the report.

The two top Democratic leaders of the legislature said hearings should be held so lawmakers have a full accounting of the facts to ensure the safety of the troubled youths in state care.
