WILLIMANTIC – Police arrested three men in an undercover prostitution sting Friday.

Police charged the three men, Douglas MacDonald, 61, of Windham; Martin Smith, 53, of Hampton; and Hector Hernandez-Colocho, 39, of Willimantic, with patronizing a prostitute.

As part of the sting operation, dubbed “Operation Jules,” a female police officer worked undercover.

The men were processed and released on $2,500 bail. They are scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on August 18.

According to authorities, the undercover operation was set up as part of an ongoing effort to curb prostitution after Willimantic Police received complaints from city residents about this type of illegal activity on and around Main Street.

“We take complaints not unlike these extremely serious,” said Sergeant Alex Coriaty, acting criminal investigation division commander, in a statement. “If city residents see this type of activity, or other illegal activity such has narcotics sales, we are urging them to call police headquarters. Any information provided will always be kept confidential.”
