BOLTON--Friday afternoon police were involved in a shooting in Bolton.
Just after 3 p.m. Friday, South Windsor and Manchester police officers responded to a bank robbery at the First Niagara Bank on Buckland Road in South Windsor; they attempted to stop the suspect's car, but he wouldn't stop.
A car chase ensued through Manchester, onto Route 384/Route 6, and all the way to the intersection of Route 44 in Bolton. At that point, the suspect's car hit the right side of the road and became disabled.
The suspect exited the car--a witness says police commanded him to--and began to walk towards State Police troopers and police officers. Police say the suspect, who is just described as a white male, was armed with a weapon. Officers asked him to stop, but he continued to move toward them.
A Manchester police officer discharged his Taser, hitting the suspect. It didn't impact him though, and he ripped the prongs out and continued approaching the officers with the weapon still in his hands. At that point, a State Police trooper and a different Manchester police officer fired their guns and hit the suspect.
It's unknown how many times the suspect was shot, or what his condition is, but he was taken to Hartford Hospital after getting emergency care on the scene.
Route 44 was closed between Vernon Road and Bolton Notch for several hours, but it reopened around 4 a.m. Saturday morning.
According to a witness at the scene, a silver Toyota Matrix drove up to the intersection, followed by several police cruisers, and then exited his vehicle when police instructed him to. At that point police used a Taser to subdue the suspect, and there was a lot of screaming, followed by three "pop" sounds.
