BRIDGEPORT - In another twist in the bizarre disappearance of an Easton couple, their son is now apparently missing as well.
The State Police Major Crimes Division, who had taken over the investigation Wednesday, was still searching a home on Aldine Avenue in Bridgeport Thursday morning in connection to the missing couple. Early Thursday morning the home was still blocked off with crime tape.
Property records show the home belongs to Kyle Navin, 27, reportedly the son of Jeanette Navin, 55, and Jeffrey Navin, 56.
Neighbors said they haven't seen him, his wife, and their two dogs in about a week. The garbage truck Navin parked at the house is also gone.
The Hartford Courant reported that detectives questioned Navin soon after his parents disappeared more than two weeks ago, but police haven't talked to him since.
Neighbor Lorraine Eckes pointed out that before State Police searched Navin's house, Bridgeport police were looking for him.
"They've been in the neighborhood for well over a week, we've been seeing the stakeout and all of that in the neighborhood," Eckes said.
Coworkers last saw the couple on Tuesday, Aug. 4 and family members reported them missing on Friday, Aug. 7.
On Sunday, Aug. 9, Easton police found their car in a Westport commuter lot off of Exit 42 on the Merritt Parkway. The area surrounding the car was searched over the weekend. Sources tell the Hartford Courant that after finding evidence in the trucks, their investigation efforts grew larger. There are more than 6 detectives working on the case.
According to court documents, the Navins owe almost $2.3 million on a Guilford home which the bank foreclosed on. They also owe CL&P, now Eversource, almost $140,000 for overdue power bills.
“They’re hardworking people. That’s what we’ve learned. They’re hardworking people, who like to travel,” Chief Tim Shaw of the Easton Police Department said.
Family of the Navins said the couple’s financial issues have not proven to be a factor in their disappearance. The family said money in their banks accounts has been untouched.
The couple owns J & J Refuse where their son, Kyle Navin, is listed as the operations manager.
