BOSTON — Two Iowa men were arrested after allegedly threatening violence to attendees at the Pokemon World Championship at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.

Two men, Kevin Norton, 18, and James Stumbo, 27, were stopped as they attempted to enter the event Thursday because Boston police said they were notified of social media threats.

No nexus to terrorism has been revealed, but the investigation is ongoing, Officer Rachel McGuire of Boston Police Department said.

When police searched their vehicle, they found a 12-gauge shotgun, an AR-15 rifle, several hundred rounds of ammunition and a hunting knife, the station reported.

Police said the two men drove from Iowa to Massachusetts with several illegal guns.

They were arrested Friday at a Saugus hotel after arrest warrants were issued.

The suspects will be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court.

“Boston detectives and collaborating agencies did a great job in the stop and prevention of a potential tragedy,” said BPD Bureau of Intelligence and Analysis Commander Superintendent Paul Fitzgerald in a statement.
