Deer Hunting

HARTFORD — The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has determined bow hunting on Sundays on private land will be allowed in most deer management zones except those in north central Connecticut.

This year, the General Assembly passed legislation authorizing DEEP to establish a season for Sunday bow hunting on private properties during the fall archery season. Starting Oct. 1, Sunday bow hunting will be allowed in areas with an overpopulation of deer.

The new law also requires such hunting to take place at least 40 yards from blazed hiking trails. Hunters must have written permission from the landowner.

DEEP determined Sunday archery deer hunting on private lands will be permitted in all but three of the state’s deer management zones. The decision was based on an assessment of the deer population.
