HARTFORD — Connecticut officials are advising visitors to state parks that there will be a smaller number of lifeguards on duty as the end of summer approaches.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says many lifeguards leave their positions this time of year to return to school.

Officials say swimming areas will be guarded wherever possible through Labor Day weekend but most of the state park swimming areas will not be attended by lifeguards on weekdays between now and Labor Day on Sept. 7.
