New Haven Shooting

NEW HAVEN — Police are investigating after one person was shot Monday morning in New Haven.

Officials said it happened at around 1:20 a.m. at the corner of Lombard Street and Ferry Street.

Herlindo Hamenez Martinez, 33, was shot in the stomach.

Martinez said he and a friend were leaving Tora’s Restaurant when they were approached two men– one of the men, who was described as Hispanic, had a gun, and ultimately was the one to shoot the victim. The other man was black, according to the victims.

The two suspects marched the two victims around the corner to Chatham Street, where two other black suspects joined in on the robbery. One of those two men had a gun as well.

But police said it is unclear if they got away with any valuables after shooting the victim in the stomach. When the shooting occurred the victim’s friend ran off while the second armed man shot at him, but he wasn’t hit.

Martinez was taken to an area hospital. Martinez’s injuries are non-life threatening, police said.

The suspects are all between 5-foot-9 and 6 feet tall, according to the victims.
