ROANOKE, Va. — The woman who survived an on-air shooting that killed two TV journalists has been released from the hospital.

Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital spokesman Chris Turnbull says Vicki Gardner was released on Monday.

Gardner, the executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce, was answering questions about the community on live TV when gunfire erupted on Aug. 26.

Her husband, Tim Gardner, has said doctors removed one of her kidneys and some of her colon.

The gunman, Vester Flanagan, ambushed WDBJ-TV cameraman Adam Ward and reporter Alison Parker during the interview at the Smith Mountain Lake Visitor Center. Parker and Ward died of gunshot wounds to the head and body. Flanagan fatally shot himself after a police chase.
