KILLINGLY – A suspected drug dealer led police up to the roof of a convenience store and during a struggle, pushed one officer leaving him with minor injuries.

State Police said Aurelius Piper, 36, of Killingly was arrested on a variety of charges including assault on a police officer, and narcotics offenses Thursday morning.

Police were preparing to serve search warrants on Piper’s Water Street home, when they saw him leaving. When the officers approached him, police said Piper jumped onto the roof of a minivan, and then to the roof of the Sunnyside Farms convenience store.

The Killingly Resident Trooper followed Piper onto the roof and the two struggled, according to police.  Piper knocked the trooper from the roof causing him to land on a metal platform, then a steel pole and ultimately onto the pavement. Police said Piper then came down from the roof and fought with other troopers, and was eventually apprehended by a police K9 Dutch. Troopers were able to handcuff Piper after a brief struggle. The resident trooper was taken to Backus Hospital and later released with minor injuries.

Police found crack cocaine and synthetic marijuana on Piper and found more drugs in his home that were prepared for sale.

Piper was held on $150,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
