HAMDEN — A poll released Friday shows while Donald Trump is the leading candidate for likely voters in the GOP Iowa caucus, there’s many who would definitely not support him.

The Quinnipiac poll finds Trump has the support of 27% of likely Republican Caucus participants, Ben Carson  has 21% and 9% favor U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. In July, the same poll found Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker at 18%, with Trump and Carson at 10 % each. In the latest poll, Walker received the support of only 3 % of likely voters.

Twenty-five percent of caucus participants say they “would definitely not support” Trump for the GOP nomination, followed by Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is next on the list with 23 %, followed by New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie with 14 %.

More than half the votes in the went to three candidates who have never held political office – Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina,

The poll was conducted from August 27 through September 8, and surveyed 1,038 likely Iowa Republican Caucus participants with land lines and cell phones and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.
