STRATFORD–The Stratford chief of police, State Police and the Bridgeport state’s attorney’s officer are investigating after an officer-involved shooting.

At 5 a.m. the Stratford Police Department executed a warrant on Yarwood Street. While in the home, the suspect at the center of the warrant approached officers with a weapon. It wasn’t a gun.

An officer fired his duty weapon, hitting the suspect. The suspect was injured, but the injuries aren’t considered life-threatening. He was taken to the hospital and remains in police custody.

The suspect was identified as William Rucker, 41, of Stratford, and the officer involved was Paul Giengengack, a seven-year veteran of the department. He is on administrative duty as the investigation into his use of a weapon is investigated.
