10-year-old on bicycle struck by car, critically injured in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT — Police say a 10-year-old girl riding a bicycle has been critically injured when she was struck by a car in Bridgeport.

Witnesses told police that the girl had been riding on a sidewalk along South Avenue on the city’s West Side when she swerved into the road and was hit by a Toyota Prius at about 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Police said the girl is listed in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital with head trauma and other injuries.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Bridgeport police.
