NEW HAVEN — A New Haven man charged in connection with a fatal shooting in the city three years ago has reached a plea deal with prosecutors that calls for a 20-year prison sentence.

A lawyer for 23-year-old John Claudio — who was originally charged with murder in the September 2012 death of Joseph Mirvil — tells The New Haven Register says his client has instead pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting first-degree manslaughter with a firearm and conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery.

He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 24.

A second defendant in the shooting, 21-year-old Xavier Yancey reached a deal and pleaded guilty to the same charges.

Mirvil was shot in the front vestibule of an apartment in the Malcolm Court section of the Church Street South complex.
