HARTFORD — A Hartford police officer has been fired after he was accused of making racist comments at Foxwoods Resort and Casino.

According to police department documents provided to the Hartford Courant under a freedom of information request, Officer Kamil Stachowicz, who had been with the department since 2008, was notified of his termination on Aug. 26.

Records of a July disciplinary hearing said the incident at Foxwoods occurred on Feb. 25 while Stachowicz was off duty.

Stachowicz was reportedly intoxicated, uncooperative, belligerent, and made a “series of insulting and racial comments to police and security staff.”

The police union defended Stachowicz, calling the behavior an “isolated instance of impaired and poor judgment” that would not affect his ability to do his job.

Stachowicz had been suspended twice before.
