Sue Badek, an ovarian cancer survivor and Dr. Phillip Roland, the Chair, Dept. Obsterics & Gynecology, St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center joined the Fox CT Morning Extra to talk about ovarian cancer awareness.
More than 21,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year, and more than 14,000 will lose their lives. When one is diagnosed and treated in the earliest stages, the 5-year survival rate is over 90%. Due to ovarian cancer's non-specific symptoms and lack of early detection tests, only 19% of all cases are found at this early stage.
