WATERFORD–Animal Control is trying to find the owners of a very unique pet.

A Russian tortoise was found walking around the duck pond in Waterford, and Waterford-East Lyme Animal Control says they believe the animal is a pet.

That type of tortoise is not native to this area, and this specific tortoise had pink glittery nail polish on its shell.

Animal Control officers say the tortoise wouldn’t have survived in the wild long, but luckily he was found and is comfortable at the animal shelter.

If you recognize the little guy, you can comment on the Facebook post or email the Animal Control Office at aco@waterfordct.org.

If the tortoise’s owners aren’t found, it will be put up for adoption on October 7.
