BRONX, N.Y.–A woman has been arrested after police say a baby was thrown out of a seventh-story window in an apartment building in the Bronx.

At 2:37 p.m. on Monday police responded to reports of an unconscious person in an apartment building located at 130 West 183rd St. A newborn baby was found in the courtyard behind the building, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to PIX11, the baby still had an umbilical cord attached to her body, and that she was alive when she was thrown from the building.

According to New York City Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson, the newborn died from multiple blunt force injuries, which were consistent with being thrown from a window. The death was classified as a homicide.

Police arrested Jennifer Berry, 33, of Yonkers, N.Y., who was the baby’s mother. She was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.
