EAST HARTFORD- A local muay Thai fighter is punching and kicking his way to the international stage.

Paul Banasiak, a local Thai boxer has been invited to represent the U.S. team in Spain for the Unified World Championships.

He defeated last year's world champion, and another national champion in Richmond, Virginia to take the national title and earn his spot on team USA.

He is a local college student, personal trainer, and boxing coach who has been training in East Hartford for over 4 years, fighting in arenas such as Madison Square Garden and the casinos of Atlantic City.

He is hoping to bring the world title back to Connecticut, a state that has not been known to produce high-level fighters.

He recently came back from training and fighting in Thailand and is on a 6-0 win streak this year.

He needs help getting to Spain for November's match,  so he's launched a gofundme page seeking donations - click here if you'd like to help.
