HARTFORD--Dozens spend their Monday afternoon protesting for a national cause that has dominated the news for much of the last year.

Protesters chant ‘Black Lives Matter’ at Moral Monday rally in Hartford

Deputy Chief Brian Foley says 12 were peacefully arrested for disorderly conduct--nine women, and three men. Ten of those arrested live in the suburbs, while two live in Hartford.

The protesters came out around 3:30 p.m. and stopped traffic for a while on Albany Avenue. Around 4:15 p.m. several protesters began to sit and stand in the roadway, stopping traffic and the entrance to the University of Hartford. When asked to leave the road the protesters refused, at which point they were arrested.

After the arrests, things calmed down a bit and the road reopened, though traffic lingered.

Protesters approached cars driving home during the evening rush and handed out pamphlets and fliers saying #BlackLivesMatter while they changed the phrase over and over.

Here is a list of those who were arrested. All were charged with disorderly conduct:

  • Janee Woods-Weber, 39, of West Hartford
