HARTFORD–The Hartford Police Department is investigating the theft of an officer’s gun out of his car.

The officer said he parked his car in front of a home on Ansonia Street around midnight Tuesday night, and when he went outside Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. he saw the window on the rear passenger door shattered.

He realized his police duty belt was stolen. Items in the belt included: his department-issued gun, which was loaded, and holster; two loaded magazines issued by the department and the holster; pepper spray issued by the department; and his radio issued by the department.

A neighbor approached the officer and handed him the radio, which he said he found in the grass that morning.

The car was evaluated by officers, who are investigating the incident. No witnesses or suspects have been found.
