MILFORD - Some people settle into their favorite local café and choose to write, but not typically on the café’s windows.

One Milford restaurant is encouraging this type of creativity for the entire month of October.

As part of breast cancer awareness month, customers of Milford’s Café Atlantique are invited to honor those who have fought breast cancer in color and in words.

“It's important to me because I lost my mom and my sister to breast cancer,” said Tina Roberts, owner of Café Atlantique.

For some customers, the restaurant’s Windows of Hope serves as a reminder.

“One customer said ‘wow I need a mammogram, I better go,’” said Roberts.

Several customers were unaware of the Café Atlantique was encouraging such a unique celebration.

“It makes me feel proud and makes me feel extremely aware for my health and my family's health going forward,” said Shauna Dymarcik of Milford, who lost a couple of family members to breast cancer.

This is the second year for the River Street restaurant’s breast cancer tribute.

“Last year, the windows were covered all the way around the building,” said Roberts.

From messages to money, Café Atlantique is accepting donations to the Milford based Get in Touch foundation, which targets primarily young girls.

“They instruct young people as to how to self-breast exam and to be aware of your body at a young age,” said Roberts.
