STORRS — A GoFundMe campaign setup to give workers seen in the infamous “Mac and Cheese” video a night out, has hit it’s initial goal and is hoping for more.

The fund was set up to buy the workers at the Union Street Market staff in the UConn Student Union a gift certificate for a meal at nearby Geno’s Grille. The fundraiser was started by Sadie Rumsey and Olivia Korte, both UConn students. If you’d like to contribute to the campaign, you can find it here.

After far surpassing the goal amount, the students announced that any proceeds above $2,000 would be donated to the Covenant Soup Kitchen in Willimantic.

The workers were part of a confrontation that was caught on camera when student Luke Gatti demanded to be served bacon jalapeno mac and cheese.

Last Sunday, police arrested Gatti, 19, of Bayville, New York and charged him with breach of peace and criminal trespass. He is accused of walking into the dining hall with a beer, and both physically and verbally assaulting the staff when they wouldn’t serve him. Eventually, he is taken to the ground, police arrive, and he’s arrested. It was all caught on camera and the story went viral.

Another UConn eatery, D.P. Dough, posted about the incident on their Facebook page, making a bacon jalapeno mac and cheese calzone. They donated a portion of the proceeds from all of the limited-edition calzones sold to UConn's Huskython.
