MONROE – A Bridgeport man has been arrested after police and investigators from the U.S. Postal Service seized a package of cocaine believed to have a street value of $40,000, according to police.

On October 2, the United States Postal Investigations Service contacted Monroe police to say they had a package for a local address that they suspected contained drugs, police said.

The package was opened at the Monroe Police Department and  a little over two pounds of cocaine was discovered.  The package was addressed to the Monroe workplace of Josue Gonzalez 37, of Black Rock Avenue, in Bridgeport.

The package was resealed and officers delivered it to Gonzalez at his workplace. Gonzalez accepted the package and attempted to leave, when he was arrested, according to police.

Police said nobody else where Gonzalez worked had knowledge of his illegal activities.

He faces charges of possession of narcotics, possession with intent to sell, and possession of narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school/day-care facility.

He is being held on $75,000 bail with his court date slated for Thursday.
