NEW HAVEN–Police arrested two teens after they allegedly stole a car and crashed it into a local business.

At 1:41 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were patrolling the area around 24 River St. after a burglary earlier in the week. While in the parking lot, a car sped in, but then quickly drove off when the driver saw the officers.

The officers tried to pull the driver over, but he eventually crashed into the G Mini-Mart bodega located at 606 Ferry St., which sustained minor damage and caused utility wires from a nearby pole to detach. Officers found the car after the crash, and chased the two suspects who left the car on foot.

The driver, who is a juvenile, was charged with stealing the car–which was reported stolen from North Haven–engaging officers in pursuit, operating a motor vehicle without a license, interfering with police and several motor vehicle violations.

The passenger in the car, who is also a juvenile, went missing from a group home in East Haven on October 12. He was charged with some of the same offenses as the driver.

Police noticed cuts on one of the juvenile’s hands and asked if he sustained the injuries in the crash. The juvenile then admitted that he cut himself when he broke into 24 River St. a few days earlier.
