NEW YORK — An advertisement for a nursing position in a New York town is causing outrage over one of its job criteria — no Haitians.

The ad was in the Oct. 15 print New City edition of the weekly Pennysaver. It says Interim Healthcare Inc. is looking for a female nurse for a job in West Haverstraw. It says: “Laid back nurse, no Haitians.” It mandates that candidates also have state certifications.

The in-home nursing provider issued a statement on its Facebook page saying the ad is “totally unacceptable and is offensive to us.” It says a review will be done to look at what happened and make sure that it didn’t happen again.

Pennysaver had no immediate comment.

West Haverstraw is about 40 miles north of New York City.
