NEW HAVEN -- The New Haven Police Department and Live Kind, a Connecticut based non-profit, are working together on a campaign to improve communication between police officers and children.

The campaign comes on the heels of a successful summer program in which police and young people recorded short videos as a way to give them an outlet to talk about and work through their feelings.

"I am afraid because cops, since I am black, they are gonna try to hurt me or arrest me, they are not going to try to speak to me," said one New Haven child in the video.

With these videos, Live Kind hopes to teach New Haven police and the community to keep the  conversation going with kids in the area and also to provide adults ways to have open discussions about bullying, bias, attitudes and human interaction with these young people.

"For anybody to say that a child's neighborhood doesn't affect the way they turn out in life, I believe that thought process is wrong," said a New Haven police officer in a video.
