Connecticut Unemployment Struggles

WETHERSFIELD — The state Department of Labor says Connecticut lost 7,600 jobs in September, reversing course after employers added jobs for four months.

State labor economists said Monday the unemployment rate declined to 5.2 percent, from 5.3 percent in August. It’s still slightly higher than the 5.1 percent national unemployment rate.

The decline in employment was tempered by a revised jobs gain in August, to 5,400 from an initial estimate of 3,200.

Andy Condon, research director at the department, said September job losses were widespread, though annual gains still remain “relatively strong.”

He said some of the jobs decline is due to seasonal adjustments in data and does not represent actual employment losses.

Connecticut has recovered about 84 percent of the 119,000 jobs lost during the March 2008-to-February 2010 employment recession.
