Ellington fatal crash

ELLINGTON — Police have identified a Thompson woman killed after she was thrown from a car that went out of control and rolled onto her along Route 83 in northern Connecticut.

Police say 25-year-old Kayla Coffin-Houston was a passenger in a 2011 Mazda 3 driven by 24-year-old Nathan Coles, of Ellington, early Tuesday morning. He was walking around the car when police arrived and was later taken by helicopter to Hartford Hospital.

Coffin-Houston was declared dead by a paramedic around 1 a.m. State police said Coffin-Houston was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Route 83 was closed for about five hours Tuesday morning as state police investigated.
